After
seeing San San@珊珊的小天地 sharing her noodle soup last week, I decided to make some
noodles which I haven’t done for a few months. This <Tomato & Herbs
Noodles> recipe was developed from the one that I used when making my
<Carrot & Spinach Noodles> & yeah, it came from Sonia@Nasi LemakLover.
I
personally think that tomato & herbs work very well together. And these
noodles gave a nice smell of the dried herbs. Yum!
I used canned Italian Diced Tomatoes. They are quite thick. After blender, they became thicker which is good in colouring the noodles.
Homemade Tomato & Herbs Noodles
(Recipe Source:Adapted from Carrot & Spinach Noodles)
Serves 3-4
Ingredients:
260g Plain Flour
2g Salt
1/2 Egg
80ml Water
60g Thick Tomato Paste, SEE NOTE 1
2tsp Dried Mixed Herbs
15ml Oil
Method:
1. Place flour, salt & dried herbs in a big mixing bowl, stir to combine.
2. Add egg, water & tomato paste. Stir to combine.
3. Knead with machine until a dough ball is formed.
4. Add oil. Continue to knead until a smooth dough is formed. It is a little bit sticky like the play dough.
5. Divide into 2 portions, place in a oiled bowl. Spread with little bit of water, cover with cling wrap & rest for an hour.
6. Grab one dough ball, dust the dough, hand & rolling pin, roll out into oval. Repeat for another dough ball.
7. View the rest of the steps here. Check from Step 6-8.
Oops, I forgot to upload these photos earlier!
NOTES:
1) I used 110g diced tomatoes as above to blender & it yields about 80g of thick tomato paste.
2) The dried herbs helped to absorb the moisture of the dough a little. If you don't add the herbs, please reduce the water/tomato paste a little.
3. Like I mentioned earlier, the brand of tomatoes I used gave a thick tomato paste. In the supermarket, you can buy the ready-to-use tomato paste, do consider that. Thick paste is good in colouring the noodles. Fresh paste made with fresh tomatoes may be a bit watery, for this, do adjust the water/flour used when making the noodles.

Sambal Restaurant
We
went to our favourite Malaysian restaurant, Sambal to have lunch yesterday
after Ethan’s swimming lesson. This
restaurant is famous for their Hainanese Chicken, very tender & soft. But when placing the order, one must mention
that you need the chicken drumstick part, or else, you will be given the
chicken breast.
The children shared a plate of Char Kway Teao(one of the co-owners is Penang lang,aud$12.30)
Hubby ordered Nasi Lemak(aud$14.80)
Mee rebus(aud$13.80)
I had the Mee Rebus(aud$13.80)
This
Mee Rebus only available twice every month on a specific weekend, so must have
for me. It was so hot that I had to drink a glass of coconut water($4) + 2
glasses of water to “kill” the heat in my mouth. Felt like my tummy & colon
were burning after eating!
This
avocado tree is as tall as a rambutan tree. It is located next to Sambal &
for the past 7-8 years, I rarely see the avocados but yesterday was my lucky
day, I spotted 4 hanging high up on the tree.

the same dishes. Samething applies to the drinks.
~Enjoy!~

Mel, no lah, sometimes I gave them junk food & rubbish food, haha! But I really like to try the tomato flavour of noodles & I like it!
DeleteHi Jessie, you're so creative! I've never thought of making tomato noodles before. Looks very delicious indeed!
ReplyDeleteAiyo... the dishes in Sambal restaurant are so expensive! I'm sure you can cook at home.
I've never seen a avocado tree before. Wish I can have a closer look one day.
Ann, you make your version & I can try your recipe in the future!

DeleteHi Jessie,
ReplyDeleteYou are so brilliant making your own noodles and even more special with the addition of tomatoes! Seeing your daughter enjoying her noodles makes me feel hungry too.
My husband and I were thinking of growing an avocado tree too but gave up the idea knowing it takes many years for a good tree to fruit :p You are lucky spotting this fruiting avocado tree! Why are you telling everyone about this ? !!!!
Zoe
Zoe, you mean the avocado tree? Because I rarely see it fruiting, so exciting, haha, if they were lower, I would have asked my hubby to pluck it, haha!
DeleteYour homemade noodles look fabulous! Envy ya! Lol! Make me want to make some myself now, heehee. Your little one justified that its totoally yummy! Will try out your recipe and make some this weekend. Thanks Jessie!
ReplyDeleteHBS, thanks you like the idea & pls let me know later!
DeleteHi Jess,
ReplyDeleteI never thought of adding tomato into making noodles.' Pandai' you :p
Looking at your Isabelle enjoy her noodles, i am drooling..:D
Thanks for linking your post to LTU.
mui
Mui Mui, no worry, there will be more in the coming weeks, will do it once a week for LTU!
DeleteOnce a week for LTU...that is great!
DeleteYou are so awesome! I am looking forward in one of this day you can be one of our LTU event host...lol
Thank you dear for being so supportive! I appreciated that!
mui
Mui Mui, I've changed my mind now & would love to post all the tomato dishes b4 I post others, hahaha, feeling touched or not!
DeleteHi Jessie, seeing your post, I feel like going to buy a noodle maker also. Love your tomato herb noodles... must be so delicious! And healthier too than those bought from outside.
ReplyDeleteMich, my pasta machine is very cheap which I got it from K-Mart, now I think it has marked down to just $12, haha!
DeleteHi Jessie! Your little girl is so cute and she certainly looks like she's enjoying your noodles!
ReplyDeleteFood prices in OZ are really high! AUD14 for a plate of Mee Rebus?! I should consider relocating and setting up my restaurant there! :D
Alvin, haha! If you do, I will surely come to visit your restaurant but must taste good huh, hahaha! This Sambal is doing quite well though some other of their dishes are not that good. Besides Malaysians & Singaporeans, they are many angmos coming here.
DeleteJessie, wah you so rajin to make your own noodles. This is better than store bought because you know there are no chemicals inside. Looks so yummy leh! Your leng lui is enjoying her noodles very much :) The Malaysian food at the restaurant looks good but must earn AUD to eat lah. If convert to Ringgit, sure pengsan :)
ReplyDeleteI know, we pay so much for this type of hawker food, if convert we can feed more than a family, hahaha!
Delete
DeleteHi Jessie, your tomato noodles sure look tempting. Your girl can attest to that, definitely! By the way, how do you clean the pasta machine? I actually own one but am not sure how to clean, so it has been a white elephant for so long. Now, I am so tempted to use it instead of rolling and cutting the noodles myself
ReplyDeleteYin
Yin, haha, I had tried to clean with wet paper towel before but must be careful, dont let it stuck into the machine. Also tried with tea towel but too thick. The manual said no need to clean one, just wipe away the flour, but can't bear with it.
DeleteSo in the end, which is the best method to clean? Really cannot bear not to clean at all! Then I am thinking of the first time when I want to use, also must clean before I dare to eat the noodles which come out from the brand new machine. Which means, I will have to throw some dough away after the first rolling and cutting
DeleteYin
Yin, yeah, I did recall that the manual also said no need to clean it before the 1st use. I prefer the wet paper towel method. Make sure you use the good quality, thick paper towel.
DeleteOr, can you use brush to brush out the flour?
DeleteI think I will try the papee towel method and see how. Thanks Jessies
DeleteYIN
DeleteJessie, now you are more creative in your cooking, never thought of adding tomato into pan mee, i can imagine it must be very refreshing ! If i try to convert the price in this restaurant to ringgit, mana boleh makan, mahal betul, hehehe..
ReplyDeleteSonia, it was becoz I always used herbs in my tomato dishes & it happened that this month of Little Thumbs Up is tomato, so why waiting for, go to play with some flour loh. I've seen beetroot noodles before which I'm not interested coz I don't like red noodles, remind me of blood, geli, haha.
DeleteI love homemade noodles/pasta, using tomato paste is a great idea, I must keep that in mind for next time.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kelly Siew!
DeleteJessie, your noodles looks good leh. I like that photo where u hang them dry! Hehe. Isabelle is quite as always, wanna give her a big hug!
ReplyDeleteYen, this is called the housewife style as I don't want to spend money to buy something which only uses occasionally, haha!
DeleteWow!!! you can make your own noodles, pandai leh!!!! I want to learn from you...
ReplyDeleteEsther, this is a recipe which can be used to make many types of different flavoured of noodles with minor adjustments.
DeleteJessie, you are making me so hungry now, see your noodle make me craving for fish ball mee bo dried with lots of chilli. You are too far from me so I have to go coffee shop and buy for lunch later lol.
ReplyDeleteJess, so did you end up of eating the fish ball noodles with lots of chilli or not, hahaha!
DeleteHi Jessie,
ReplyDeleteYour noodles looks so delicious! I have been meaning to make some for quite a while already! Got to find some time to do just that!
I love the avocado tree, did you know that we have our very own avocado trees right here in Malaysia? Can be found at Cameron Highlands, the fruits are sold at the Cameron markets, funny thing is I can never find it at our local markets or supermarkets in Selangor or KL!
Joyce, I read from somewhere b4 that there is an orchard in Penang that grows avocados but I don't know Cameron Highlands is also growing them.
Deletehello。。。。
ReplyDelete:)
Casey,
DeleteWah you are the noodle master, Jessie!! These look so nice! I made your spinach ones last time and they were great! I'm sure these tomato ones will be the same! Definitely going to try. I wouldn't find doing pumpkin ones too..
ReplyDeleteDL, this gave the best flavour so far due to the use of the semi-dried tomatoes.
DeleteHi Jessie, wow... nice noodles, look so professional. The color look so pretty. Nothing beat the homemade and can see your daughter is enjoying the noodles.
ReplyDeleteNice food at the M'sian restaurant. Have a nice week ahead.
Amelia, nice restaurant but the price is also expensive too, hehehe!
Deletehello jessie, you 're really good in making noodles. Your previous noodles and these tomatoes herb noodles looks really good, i think mamak mee goreng also nice :)
ReplyDeleteLena, this recipe was originated from "ban mien," not sure whether is good for mee goreng or not but noodle soup also ok, hehe!
